| WLAN - MRTG |

WLAN-MRTG is an enhancement for monitoring and analyzing WLANs with the comfort of MRTG, brought to you by avalaris. The graphical representation has also been enhanced and adapted to special needs in monitoring WLAN-networks. In addition to the usual functions of MRTG, WLAN-MRTG is able to log signal strength and noise level in data traffic and helps to better recognize and deal with "areas with no reception". Furthermore, WLAN-MRTG supports various wireless access points, such as:
To configure the access point, one only needs its IP-address. The client machines will then be detected automatically. Due to the type of implementation using shell scripts and communication over SNMP, integration of other access points is possible within a short time. Another advantage is the plug-and-play ability of the system. WLAN clients are identified automatically by their MAC-addresses and are ready for diagnosis almost immediately. It is up to you, if you want to assign the mobile client names statically, by their-MAC addresses or if you want to assign them dynamically by the IP-addresses. Manual maintenance of address tables is not necessary. Moreover, WLAN-MRTG is able to divide load and error ratio into separated graphical representations and thus offers optimal conditions for monitoring WLANs in companies or public hot spots. MRTG means Multi Router Traffic Grapher and is a freely available open source program for monitoring of network activities. It is a Linux-based product and monitors all clients in the network of a server, no matter on which platform the are operated. MRTG is able to display different kinds of reports, either based on IP-addresses or MAC-addresses. Those reports are e.g.: network utilization seen in daily, weekly or annually trends; packet quantity, errors and so on; the utilization of HTML files allows monitoring of these data comfortably from everywhere with just a web server. |
